July 2018 Newsletter

Kia ora whānau,
We need to ask all whānau to take care when you enter and leave Grow, especially the front foyer door. Your responsibility is for you and your own children. Please do not allow any contractors, visitors, or unknown persons entry to the building. If you are unsure ask them to wait while you find someone who can help them.

Recently a number of parents have been entering and exiting the carpark quickly and this is concerning. PLEASE, PLEASE drive slowly and be especially mindful at the busy times of day. A minute more taking care can make all the difference.

Grow has policies which we review regularly. From time to time we would like your input and suggestions. In the past we have asked for this on Storypark. By participating in this process, you have a say in what the policy content is. Look out for the ICT policy in August as we know whānau raised issues around privacy in this digital world we live in, at the Education Review Meeting recently. More about the ERO visit further on in the newsletter.

Staff News

We welcome Acushla Gordon to the staff as team leader in Mangatawa. On Monday 30th, Tina Collins will begin work in Mangatawa and we hope they both gain their sense of belonging to an awesome centre, very quickly. Shortly due to parent feedback, we will ensure that our relief staff will be easily recognised. Agency staff and student teachers always place a laminated page outside the room doors to introduce themselves, so check this on the way into your child’s room.

Education Review Office

Thank you to those who attended the ERO meeting for parents or sent feedback. The reviewers commented on your participation and highlighted areas we can improve on in terms of parent aspirations. In two weeks we will receive a draft report and then a final report. As soon as we have this, whānau will be notified. It was a busy time, as having the reviewers here meant a great deal of prior preparation and I would like to acknowledge all the team at Grow who worked hard to ensure we have a centre where all your children will be happy and love learning..

Spaces Available

Grow is filling up fast with new enrolments coming through the door daily. We are meeting so many new people and are excited to have more children with their whānau coming to Grow ECE. Now that we have more enrolments there are less spaces available. This means when Grow ECE is at full capacity we may not be able to accommodate casual bookings so easily or change your current booked hours. All permanent changes to hours will need two weeks’ notice to take effect. If you are thinking of extending your child’s current attended hours or booking in for an extra day, please see Rachel or Anita in the office as soon as possible as you may want to get in quick!

Your Whānau Culture

We have a diverse community attending Grow ECE and wondered what you celebrate in your culture? We have embraced the opportunity to celebrate Easter and to celebrate birthdays and Christmas. We would like to learn more about what is important to your family and how we can incorporate this in the learning programme here at Grow. Please call in and see Robyn or Tanya if you would like to introduce a little of your culture to us.

Give a Little

Our Daily Programme

We encourage children to play outside in most weather however they need to be dressed appropriately. If it is wet they will need gumboots and a raincoat. The cold weather has been a challenge as some children have no means of regulating whether they are hot or cold and of course some just don’t like having layers on. We do our best to keep them clothed to the conditions and are grateful for feedback from whānau to help us improve our practices, especially when we do not get it quite right.
