March 2018 Newsletter

Kia ora whānau, We are almost at that time of year where you can eat chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner and get away with it…… this weekend is Easter weekend. Grow ECE is closed on all public holidays which means the centre will be closed on Friday 30th March and Monday 2nd April. As we come into Autumn and daylight savings we ask that you ensure your children have warm clothes packed for the cooler days. Sun protection measures such as sun hats and sunscreen will still be in place while the UV rating is 3 and above. In every newsletter we would like to add community events, if you know of any upcoming events that are being advertised and you think other families would be interested in, please let us know.

On behalf of all the staff at Grow ECE we wish you all a very safe and happy Easter weekend, enjoy the extra days with your whānau, let’s hope the weather is amazing.

Staff News

We have welcomed Tony to our staff on a more regular basis. He will be working in Mangatawa room. The children are really happy to have Tony with us, as he brings a sense of calm, and they also love having a bloke on board! We hope you enjoy working with all your female colleagues as well, Tony.

Whānau Interviews

Thank you to all of you who came to the interviews for your children. We have discovered we need to refine some of our processes. For example, in the future for those of you who have more than one child, you’ll need to book a time for each child.

Reminder

Our centre is a nut free and whole egg free centre.

Wet Bags

Wet bags are now in action…. We realise they are not entirely waterproof and would like to apologise if this has caused problems. Children’s soiled clothing will continue to be placed inside a plastic bag in the wetbag and we will work towards eliminating the use of plastic as we go along. Wetbags can be tied to the outside of the child’s bag. We realise the name comes off when the bag is washed and will likely get a lighter coloured bag, so that the name can be put on with a permanent marker.

Office Information

Rachel is away on Annual Leave from Friday 6th April to Friday 13th April. All invoices will be sent out on Thursday 5th April for the week commencing Monday 16th April. During her absence Tanya will be helping in the office during the morning period. Anita will be on Annual Leave on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th April, the office hours will be reduced during this time. Please call the centre if you have any urgent queries.

Your Whānau Culture

We have a diverse community attending Grow ECE and wondered what you celebrate in your culture? We have embraced the opportunity to celebrate Easter and to celebrate birthdays and Christmas. We would like to learn more about what is important to your family and how we can incorporate this in the learning programme here at Grow. Please call in and see Robyn, Renee or Tanya if you would like to introduce a little of your culture to us.

Our Daily Programme

Over the next few months we will be incorporating more information in the newsletter about the daily programme at Grow ECE. At Grow we are passionate about celebrating children’s learning at their own pace through a diverse array of play based experiences. Within the day we encourage children to participate in small and large group times including art, discovery, karakia, waiata, kai and other events and activities. We value the learning discovered through working together and alongside others. We recognise the need to provide outdoor challenges and space to run therefore provide free indoor/outdoor flow throughout the day. At Grow it is important ongoing learning for children to respect each other, the environment and the resources that are provided. Our team of professionals provide a great resource to compliment children’s learning. We celebrate the privilege of supporting the learning and teaching of your young children, in a caring and loving purpose-built space where fun is an essential part of the day.

Safe Surfer

Safe Surfer was nominated for the award Technology Innovator of the Year at the New Zealand Charities Technology Awards evening in Auckland last week. Great news the winner of this award went to Safe Surfer! Congratulations to Aaron and the Team, we are so proud. Soon we will be hosting an evening for the community to come and learn all about Safe Surfer. This event will be held on Wednesday 2nd May at 7.00 pm. More information to follow soon.
